Barb Stewart

Barb has been an artist all her life and grew up in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. She holds an AA degree and Digital Prepress Production Certificate. Her BFA degree is from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she majored in Ceramics and Textile Design.

Barb has been working as a self-employed artist and art related volunteer since relocating to Denison, Texas in 2015.

Two dimensional found object assemblages, paintings and sculptures have been shown in many group and solo shows. She particularly enjoys combining her work with her love of music and Urban Photography.

Her process as a visual artist is to combine different techniques to create work that feels challenging, yet comfortable. Ninety-five percent of the work is unplanned with a detachment from any type of deliberate outcome.

Involvement in Gourd Art started in 2017 after joining the Dallas Gourd Patch.
She enjoys sharing about this early art form at Makers Markets and festivals. Other venues include The Dallas Arboretum and Texas State Fair. Barb has taught several Gourd Art classes through local art organizations. In 2024 she taught at the North Texas Gourd Festival in Granbury, TX.
